3 U.S. Cities With Deep-Rooted Food Stories
Nashville: a dish born here, and a fresh win
Nashville is the documented origin city of hot chicken, traced to the Prince family and specifically to Thornton Prince III. Prince's Hot Chicken Shack has been run continuously by Andre Prince Jeffries since 1980. On top of that history, chef Jake Howell of Peninsula won the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef: Southeast award in 2025, giving the city both a dish's true origin and a current national accolade.
Anchorage: a 1955 institution, honored in 2025
Lucky Wishbone, open in Anchorage since 1955, won a James Beard Foundation America's Classics award in 2025, seventy years after it first opened. The restaurant is confirmed currently operating. Alaska is also, at the state level, consistently the top U.S. state for commercial seafood landings per NOAA's own annual reports, a genuine reputation Anchorage sits at the center of as the state's largest city.
Portland: three wins in four cycles
Portland has won the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef: Northwest & Pacific award three times in the last four award cycles: Vince Nguyen of Berlu in 2023, Gregory Gourdet of kann in 2024, and Ryan Roadhouse of Nodoguro in 2026. Nodoguro, the most recent winner, is confirmed currently operating, and the three-wins-in-four-years pattern is a real, dated signal that the city's food scene keeps producing at the top level.

A great story doesn't fill tables by itself
A dish's true origin or a fresh national award gets a city's food scene talked about. It doesn't automatically get any single restaurant a table on a Tuesday night. That still takes a real paid traffic strategy pointed at your own ordering channel, not a marketplace listing.
